The Wykeham Arms, Winchester thin white line

About Us

The Wykeham Arms has long been loved by locals and visitors alike — and 2025 was a year that truly highlighted what makes our pub special. Out of more than 50,000 pubs across the UK, The Telegraph named us one of its Top 500 Pubs, recognising the warmth, character, and hospitality we’re known for. We were also honoured to win Fuller’s Pub of the Year 2025, as well as Hospitality Business of the Year 2025 at the Hampshire Business Awards, standing out among impressive competition including Chewton Glen and The White Buck in Burley.

Our fabulous food and drink, great location, cosy fireplaces and various nooks and crannies, ideal for settling into for an afternoon, have made us hugely popular with locals. Our plush, recently refurbished bedrooms have given visitors out of town even more reason to stay with us, too.

Whether your stay is short or long, you can be certain of a warm welcome and wonderful hospitality when you choose to visit The Wykeham Arms.

Eating and drinking

The Wykeham has a long standing reputation of providing some of the finest food in Winchester, we've been recognised with 2 AA rosettes and our sous chef took the prize for Fuller’s Chef of the Year in 2018 for his fabulous food – and it was a well-deserved accolade. Head Chef Luke Emmess has been at The Wykeham Arms for six years. In 2016, he won Fuller’s Young Chef of the Year – for which he won a four-day stage in Dubai with Jason Atherton – and then went on to win Fuller’s Chef of the Year 2019. Yet another well-deserved accolade was reaching the regional finals of The Roux Scholarship 2022. In 2026, he has made it to the Knock Out Week in the BBC TV show MasterChef: The Professionals where his flavour combinations impressed the critics and the judges.

Most pubs offer a wine list (and we do too – there are over 80 carefully selected bottles to choose from, as well as delicious wines by the glass), Also, check out our beautiful St George Tea Room which available to book as a private function space.

Our bar also has cask-conditioned beers on tap, including the much-loved London Pride, plus ciders, spirits and soft drinks to cater to any taste.
